Functions

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of CISM and is convened once a year (April/May) with at least half of the membership present. It deliberates and makes decisions on the following matters

  • Acceptance of new member nations (with the 3/4 majority of present active nations)
  • Election CISM leadership (Presidents, Board of Directors, etc.)
  • Consideration and approval of CISM activities
  • Planning for the activities for the present year
  • Planning for the activities for the following year
  • Certification and approval of CISM budget
Board of Directors
  • 20 members (a President, 4 Vice Presidents, 15 members)
  • Meets three times a year (first in February, second in April/May and third in November)
  • Overseas the work of CISM bodies and ensures proper management
  • Determines the agenda for the following year's General Assembly
President
  • Elected by the General Assembly for a term of 4 years
  • Leads and manages the CISM organization in accordance with its regulations
  • Chairs the Congress and General Assembly, and Board of Directors
  • Presents an annual report to the General Assembly
Vice Presidents
  • Represents CISM in his continent on behalf of the President
  • Promotes CISM principles and sports in his continent
  • Presides over the Continental Meeting and serves as a spokesman on matters relating to the continent as a whole
Secretary General
  • Prepares Congresses, General Assemblies and Board of Directors sessions
  • Participates in the sessions of the General Assembly and the Board of Directors without the right to vote
  • Implements the decisions of the General Assembly and Board of Directors
  • Management and administration of the General Secretariat
CISM Sport Committees
  • Established for each official CISM sport discipline
  • Manages and develops a CISM sport for military athletes, both male and female and promote it world-wide
  • Oversees the technical conduct of a world military championship in a specific sport
  • Update the regulations of the sport
Commissions
  • Organized to support CISM and member activities along the respective areas
  • Regulations Commission, Planning Commission, Sports Commission, Solidarity Commission, Sports Medicine Commission, Finance Commission, Women in CISM (7)
Liaison Offices
  • Make effort to revitalize regional activities and coordinate CISM activities
  • Organize Continental Meetings during the General Assembly
  • Division of 11 regional zones
    • · Africa : North Africa (Algeria), Central Africa (Gabon), West Africa (Burkina Faso), East Africa(Kenya), South Africa(Lesotho)
    • · America : North America(Trinidad and Tobago), South America (Chile)
